Flowers are always on trend in the world of surface pattern in one way or another, here I’ve collated boards for the styles of florals for Spring/Summer 16.
The first trend is ‘Expressive Botanicals’, which incorporates dynamic brush marks, a soft tropical colour palette, with impressionist and expressionist influences. This is moving on from the watercolour looks that are currently in style, progressing to a more oil paint inspired approach.
The second is ‘Graphic Florals’, which takes its influences from 50s and 60s retro prints, simplistic motifs with over printed detail, and a bold, varied colour palette. This is in contrast to the more detailed florals and accurately illustrated botanicals that can be seen on the SS15 catwalks.
